Hotlines

Updated: Feb 1, 2021

Please keep in mind that ValidYouth is not a therapy website. However, we will provide some hotlines for you if you are in need of help. Please do not come to us if you are feeling like you may hurt yourself or others. Instead, seek professional help or call/text one of these hotlines.

Kids Help Phone: (1-800-668-6868) for youth aged 20 and under. Kids and adolescents can call 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

Trans Lifeline: (1-877-330-6366) Their schedule is available at http://hotline.translifeline.org.

The LGBT Youth Line: (1-888-687-9688), a toll-free Ontario-wide peer-support phone line for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, transsexual, two-spirited, queer and questioning young people. Service is available Sunday to Friday, 4:00 pm to 9:30 pm.

You don't only have to call a hotline either. If you are struggling with your mental health or have a mental health concern, you or your family can speak with the following:

  1. A doctor or a nurse

  2. A teacher or school guidance counsellor

  3. A group or organization that can connect them to mental health services

  4. A therapist

If you are having a mental health crisis and are at risk of hurting yourself or others, you can also seek care at a hospital emergency department. Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that emergency staff will be prepared to sensitively interact with a gender-diverse or sexual-minority youth.

Unfortunately, this is all we have to offer for mental health crisis support at the moment. However, we may update this post with more hotlines and information if we find any more soon, so keep yourself updated if you're interested. If you happen to have a hotline or any information for us, please comment so in the comments so that we can add it. Stay strong, and remember that you are all valid!
